Dear Parents,

Welcome to the Summer Term. Below is some information on aspects of the curriculum that we will be covering between now and the end of Term. Most of our learning will be done through focusing on different Topics. Our Topic this term will be “Towns”.

Literacy: Building on our learning from the first and second terms we will be continuing to work in our Read Write Inc groups. We will be doing lots of activities using phonics, reading and writing.

Numeracy: We will be thinking about numbers to 100, looking at capacity and as a measurement and practicing addition and subtraction. We shall think about 3d shapes and sorting them according to their properties. We will be practicing counting in tens. We will be looking at lines of symmetry and symmetrical patterns.  It would be very helpful if children could be encouraged to think about numbers whenever possible and generally see money and shapes being used in daily life situations.

Science: The children will be explore sources of light both natural and manmade. We will look at sounds made in Towns and discover the materials used in building. We will then go on to experiment with natural forces and see how they are used to move objects.

Art: We will be experimenting with all sorts of materials, including textiles, pastels and packaging. We shall be learning to produce work in different ways including, painting, collages and printing. In particular we will focus on drawings made from real life studies.

D.T:  We will be exploring shapes used in buildings. We will also be using various materials to create models and then think about strengthening them.

R.E: Our focus will initially be on Christianity, discovering the stories of The Old Testament, and then we will move on to learn about Judaism.

P.E: In Games we will concentrate on developing our ball skills and working in a team.

Music: As well as learning simple songs, we shall be exploring pitch and rhythm made with our voices and instruments.

Geography: We will concentrate on our surroundings, looking at seasons and change.  We shall also look at maps, routes and local buildings.

History: Our focus initially will be on old buildings and the items people from past times had inside their houses.

ICT: We will be investigating ways to organise data; such as pictograms and bar charts..

PHSE: (Personal, Health, and Social education) will focus on friendship, our feelings, communication. This work is done through circle time and class discussions encouraging the children to develop their speaking and listening skills.

REMINDERS:

Please ensure that all uniform and any other items brought into school are clearly labelled. All children should have a P.E kit in school. Our P.E days are Wednesday and Friday but kit should be left in school.

Our main aim as well as working is to have lots of fun.

Thanks for your continued support,

S Jull
