I hope you had a nice Easter, currently we have a trainee teacher helping us in our class.

During the first half of the Summer term, year 4 will be covering the following topics:

Literacy:           We will be studying instruction texts and writing a horror story based in Ancient Egypt. We will also be considering persuasive texts and writing a letter of persuasion.

Numeracy:        We will be looking at rounding and using informal strategies to add and subtract. Times tables will continue to be learned and right angles and degrees will be recapped. Plotting coordinates on a grid and carrying out word problems will also be covered.

Science:           This half term our topic for science is Moving and growing.  We will be considering the bones in our skeletons and how muscles make them move.

ICT:                 We will continue with some work with control and will then be learning how to write for different audiences. This will involve recapping some of the features of word processing and learning to use some new ones.

History:            We will be looking at Ancient Egypt. We will be studying their beliefs about life after death, tombs, pyramids and mummification. Egyptian hieroglyphics and numbers along with finding out about the life and death of Tutankhamun is also part of the topic.

PSHE:               Considering feelings about a special person or animal, the feelings involved with the illness and death of a pet and how people remember people are the topics this half term.

French:             We will be considering the vocabulary involved with countries and flags.

The following homework will be given most weeks: Literacy, Numeracy, Science, History, and Reading.  Each piece should take no longer than half an hour.

I hope this will give you a further insight into your child’s education.  If you have any questions or queries please do not hesitate to contact me.
